Choreographies

Performances: Izzy and Steve love to create shows that encompass a theme or story.

Here are videos of the shows, and a blurb. Watch the video first and see what it means to you. Then read the blurb of the story or inspiration for the piece. Remember - the shows are always open to interpretation, and the fact that different people see different concepts just make it even more special.

Open hands

Inspired by the line of the song - Open hands are hard to hold, Izzy and Steve created this piece with the concept in mind - you can’t connect or help someone until they’re ready.

Watch the journey across the stage from left to right as a concept of past and future. Something happens in the past and the girl can’t let it go. The boy tries to help her move on, but it’s not until she makes peace with it (the final time she approaches the left) and turns to him that they can both more forward into the future.

2018. Song: Open Hands, Ingrid Michaelson

The lovers that went wrong

This piece is about disconnection. Two lovers desperately trying to connect, and never getting through. It’s about the pain we can cause each other and the madness that ensues, about a love that destroys rather than creates. Lyrics - “Setting fire to our insides for fun : It was a flood that wrecked this home : And you caused it.”

2017. Song: Youth, Daughter. Dancers Izzy Washington and Reza Semnani.

After creating the performance piece Izzy saw this sculpture which also seems to convey this feeling. Sculpture by Ukranian Artist Alexander Milov.

Mirror

2019

“Didn’t think that love meant you could be so f*ing mean”

Inspire by this line and others, this piece starts with a girl staring and fighting with her reflection in the mirror. What she sees breaks free and becomes a monster. It takes control of her and she descends into madness with a fight and a submission. The costumes representing the sticky darkness growing upwards to swollow her whole.

Towards the end, she starts to realise the monster is herself and she takes control. But the monster is too strong. She ends up stuck in the mirror, herself a reflection… (Dark hey!). Click here to watch a performance filmed front-on for the full mirror experience.

2019. Song: Nomad by Oriental Cravings.

Brief and beautiful…

2021 & 2022

A joyous piece of two people meeting over a daisy. The flower represents the wonders of life that we are often too busy to notice. This piece was inspired by enduring the longest covid lockdown in the world (Melbourne) and being forced more than ever to find happiness in the little things in life.

2021 & 2022. Song: Brief And Beautiful, by Fahrenhaidt
